SC OF AMHERST SKATING RULES

Peanuts Gang Skating

It is expected that all skaters will interact with respect toward each other and the ice rink facility on and off the ice. Swearing or other derogatory language, deliberately chipping the ice with blades, or any vandalism to rink property will not be tolerated by the club.

CHECKING IN: Every skater is required to check in with the session monitor at the beginning of each session skated. The session monitor is located in the "Music Box" at the side of the rink where the music is being played and announcements are being made. Please do not ignore this responsibility. Attendance is needed to determine guesting space.

GUESTING: Any current USFSA skater is welcome to guest skate on any SCA session for which they are eligible if there is open space on the session.  All club members (including skaters from the Learn-to-Skate Program) are eligible to guest on "Open Freestyle" sessions. Tested skaters are eligible to guest on both "Open" and "Restricted" Freestyle sessions. Any skater interested in guesting must first check with the session monitor before going onto the ice to skate. If the session is fully registered, the guesting skater must wait up to 10 minutes to see if a space opens up. The payment of the guest fee is due at the time of guesting.

No guest fee = No guesting!

PROGRAM: A skater who wants her/his program played needs to go to the Music Box and ask the session monitor to place her/his tape in line. Please have your program tapes clearly marked with your name and type of program, i.e. freestyle, showcase, etc. Programs are played in a priority order:

1st request on lesson > 1st request > 2nd request on lesson > 2nd request, etc.

Please note that a skater asking for two different programs (ex. freestyle, showcase) is asking for a 1st and 2nd request not two 1st requests.

Skaters are announced by the session monitor as either:

"On Program" Take your place on the ice for the start of your music

-- or --

"On Deck" You will be the next skater after the current program

All skaters are required to wear an "X" vest when on program. It is the responsibility of the skater to listen for her/his name announced on deck so that she/he can put on a vest and be ready to skate next.

Please remember that the session monitor is a volunteer and may be new at running sessions and playing music so please be patient and courteous. Please return the vest to the music box after each use! Too many vests have disappeared!

PLEASE NOTE: The skater "on program" always has the right-of-way over all other skaters (even those on lesson). It is the responsibility of each skater and each coach to be aware of the skater on program and to move out of the way as the skater is approachingIt is likewise the responsibility of the skater on program to give way when approaching a skater in an established spin. Skaters should not monopolize any one area of the ice (ex. one of the circles or lines). Rink corners are frequently used for jumps so please keep these areas clear. Standing around talking and socializing with other skaters is best done off the ice. Awareness and consideration of the movement of other skaters will make a better skating environment for all skaters.
