The Skating Club of Amherst is pleased to offer an off-ice class to its members. Come join this program designed especially for skaters in conditioning and off-ice training.
This program consists of core work, balancing, stretching, strengthening, speed drills, endurance, and jumping. Have fun with “sticks” and “ladders”. The class is fun and enjoyable as well as informative.
This class relates all its program components to developing age-appropriate exercises for learning and practicing on-ice moves. Students learn about the body and its parts and how they relate to both skating and individual skating moves (ex. spirals). Skating moves are broken down to provide a better understanding of what the skater is trying to do on the ice. When their coach deems them ready, skaters learn exercises in preparation for the more difficult on-ice moves. Basic arm and head movements and carriage of the upper body are explored as well as how the body can express itself in a musical program.
